Over the years the humble timber deck has provided a spot to relax and catch a breeze, or take in a view.Today, the deck has transformed into a “must have” outdoor entertaining area, becoming one of the main living areas of the home, especially in warmer climates.

We felt it was time to review the construction methods of the timber deck and find new and better ways to protect and prolong its life. With decks and verandah’s etc, rotting timber joists have been an ongoing problem and are directly responsible for the reduced life expectancy of such structures. They also contribute to unsafe and extremely dangerous decks. Shocking examples have recently appeared in the media.

During the rebuild, it is often discovered that the decking board itself is still sound, but ends up discarded to make way for all new materials. In the past a variety of methods have been used, including paint and foreign building materials in an attempt to protect the top of timber joists.

With the combination of several years research and our vast experience in the building and construction industries, we have developed a waterproof barrier for timber joists that is user friendly and can be immediately covered after installation.

Joistrip is a rubber flashing specifically designed for use on timber joists and beams. Apart from excellent waterproofing features, it is Joistrip’s ability to transform into several different profiles and adapt to a variety of construction methods that makes this new product unique.
